Abstract:

Each contract type has economic advantages for the bidder and the owner. It was thought that this would also apply to risk, project history has shown this is not the case. Risk is not as transferable as was once thought. The path to understanding risk and its proper ownership will be discussed using each of the four contract types. Examples for each will be discussed and a set of guidelines for risk transfer will be provided.
